Updating

Automatic updates

While the app is running it periodically checks the release feed (roughly every five minutes). When a new version is available:

1. The update is downloaded in the background over HTTPS.
2. The file is verified — its size and SHA-256 hash must match the published release before anything is installed.
3. On the next restart the installer runs. It shows the normal install wizard; your settings and data in %APPDATA%\VRCX are untouched.

You can control this under Settings → General → Auto-Update: Auto Download (default), Notify (tell me, don’t download), or Off.

Update channels

Everyone is on the stable channel. Pre-release builds (when they exist) use separate channels and can never be offered to stable installs.

Manual update

If auto-update is off — or something went wrong — simply download the latest installer from the downloads page and run it over your existing install. That is always safe: an install over an older version is exactly what the auto-updater does anyway.

macOS

Auto-update is not available on macOS. Watch the releases page and install new DMGs manually.
